July 14th, 6:30 - 9:00pm - Introduction to Character Development
In this beginner friendly workshop, we will explore what it means to bring a character to life on stage and in the rehearsal hall. Focusing on 3 of the foundations when character building, physicality, vocal choices, and backstory. These foundations will help you to develop strong and unique characters to bring into your acting. If you are new to the world of acting or want to bring a new level of understanding to your characters this is a great place to build that foundation. This three hour class will be physical, wear clothes you can move in and supportive shoes.
July 21st, 6:30- 9:00pm - Advanced Character Development
The advanced character development workshop focuses on how scenes affect your character. Diving deep into moments before and whittling down caricature into true and honest characters that feel less like imitations and more lived in humans. This class will bring a new level of understanding to your ability as an actor or director and help you to feel confident when making strong choices in the rehearsal process. This three hour class will be physical, wear clothes you can move in and supportive shoes. If you have a character you are working on already in a show, you are welcome to use that or develop one during the class.
July 28th, 6:30- 8:30pm - Audition Skills
Shake all the nerves out of the audition process. In this class you will learn the basics of audition etiquette and preparation skills to help you feel comfortable with any audition you walk into. Spencer Laing will cover ways to prepare, and adapt in the audition room. This class will help strengthen your skills as an actor for your next audition.
All you need to bring is your commitment to learning. 16+

Workshop Facilitator - Spencer Laing
Spencer Laing (they/them, he/him) is an emerging artist, academic and community arts advocate located in Mi’kma’ki/Nova Scotia, Canada. Growing up on the shores of the Bay of Fundy, Spencer was surrounded by a vibrant artistic community that nurtured a passion for singing and storytelling.
A graduate of Sheridan College’s Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance program, Spencer has worked with artists from across North America, honing their skills in collaborative creation. They hold a master’s degree at Acadia University, where their research focused on the transformative impact of community theatre on individuals and communities. Spencer was named the RBC Emerging Artistic Associate of Festival Antigonish Summer Theatre for 2025. Their artistic work emphasises inclusivity, creativity, and the power of art to bring people together.
When not immersed in artistic endeavours, Spencer can be found enjoying a quiet moment with a cup of tea, their cats nearby, knitting, or delving into new research. They are dedicated to inspiring others to discover their own creative voices through music and theatre.
