The story takes place in the Temperance Society Hall during Prohibition in the 1930s. The caretaker of the hall is moonlighting. He is offering storage space to a rum runner, in the only building the police haven't got under surveillance - The Temperance Hall. The rumrunners are moving in the contraband rum when they are interrupted by the townspeople who are arriving for their Temperance meeting.

From age five, when Ernie Robinson’s mother first took him to see Brigadoon at Acadia, Ernie has loved musical theatre. After being the Scarecrow in his high school’s production of The Wizard of Oz, Ernie spent a summer travelling in the Mud Creek Players around Nova Scotia. Ernie returned to theatre in 2006 in King Island Christmas and in 2007 in Sleepy Hollow with Quick As A Wink Theatre, Windsor. In 2008, Ernie appeared in Don’t Dress For Dinner, Who’s On First? and Guys and Dolls CentreStage. You will now find Ernie happily selling Hondas at Kings County Honda in Kentville. Ernie returns to CentreStage as the Captain in Temperance in a Tea Cup and dedicates his work to honour his parents.

Last seen as Christopher Wren in The Mousetrap, Tim Hawkins is back on stage as Mr. Roach in Temperance in a Tea Cup. Obviously no stranger to CentreStage, Tim has worked on and off-stage over the years, most recently with The Mouse that Roared in the role of stage and sound manager. He enjoys all facets of theatre. “To entertain an audience is a thrill for me, and I am overjoyed that CentreStage is here to have that opportunity to entertain you.”

Valerie Rafuse lives in Centreville with her husband Brian. They have three beautiful children and a grandson. Valerie has been singing since a young age but this is her first foray into acting.

Davina Melanson has been involved in many productions since university, where she produced and stage managed Oklahoma. Since then, she has worked with various youth groups as a director and musical director. Some of her credits include Cotton Patch Gospel, GodSpell, Music Man, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Guys and Dolls. She is actively involved in running a children’s choir at her local church and volunteering for various functions in the community. Originally from the valley, Davina and her family moved back to this area two years ago, and she is quickly becoming involved in many aspects of the community including her CentreStage debut as the Musical Director and Edwina in Temperance in a Tea Cup.

Colleen Hagen is back for her third onstage appearance at CentreStage Theatre. Also a director of youth drama camps and family shows, Colleen enjoys many aspects of theatre. Some of her most memorable acting experiences include The Secret Garden (Capitol Theatre, 1999) and The Mousetrap (CentreStage, 2010). Colleen is privileged to be part of such a talented cast for Temperance in a Tea Cup!

Bob Cook, Windsor, manages Elements of Health Spa and is a Registered Massage Therapist and Registered Acupressure Massage Therapist. Bob also teaches Tai Chi and QiGong. We have lost track of the number of shows Bob has done. But it’s easy to see why musicals are among his favourite. “It is my sincere wish to be part of every musical play for which CentreStage thinks I have the talent.”

Bob Melanson lives in Port Williams. This is his first time in the theatre, but he has performed in bands since the age of 10. His current band is called Skully, in which he plays guitar and sings some. (He’s not the frontman.) Outside the theatre Bob is a Dialogue Editor and has worked on anything from This Hour Has 22 Minutes to Trailer Park Boys.

Mary Sponagle began her theatrical experience as Eleanor in No Sex Please, We’re British. She is pleased to make her second appearance at CentreStage. Hilda is a very fitting part for a product of the 60s movement, and just like her character, Mary loves a cause. Temperance in a Tea Cup is her first musical, and Mary hopes you will have as much fun listening to the songs as she has performing them. Mary would like to thank her family and friends for their support and encouragement and will need a drink with them as soon as the play is finished.

Louisa Birt, who has not the least idea what she would do without Uncle Al’s Elixir, is played by Beth Irvine. Beth was last seen in Bingo! The Musical, The Jukebox Cabaret and Lucky Stiff. She lives on the bank of the Mill Brook with a guitar man, two grown sons and two marmalade cats. In her work life she tells stories and sings with children.
/Wayne-and-Linda.gif)
Wayne and Linda Marriott are back again co-directing Temperance in a Tea Cup. You may have seen their most recent show, The Mousetrap. Wayne has been involved in over 35 plays at CentreStage, and Linda has also been involved in quite a few since they became associated with the theatre. They both say how much they enjoy directing especially when new people are involved, and of course, the seasoned players add so much to any endeavour. This is their first involvement in a musical and it’s a real pleasure working with such new (to Centrestage) talent that we have in this show. We hope you enjoy the show as much as we enjoy bringing it to life for you.
/Masami.gif)
Masami Suzuki is a piano instructor and accompanist and lives in Hantsport. This is her 7th year performing at CentreStage. She has accompanied many other musicals including Bingo! the Musical, Lucky Stiff, and Sister Amnesia's Country Western Nunsense Jamboree.
