Will the Queen let her son marry the girl he loves even if she's not as pretty as the other princesses? And what defines a real princess? Beauty? Kindness? Courage? The Prince doesn't want to marry just anyone, he wants to get to know her first. This story encourages children to follow their hearts and dreams and not live someone else's expectations or demands.
The Kentville library hosted two events in conjunction with the Princess and the Pea. The first was a Knights and Princess party where participants had a chance to listen to stories and make crafts. At the Art Smart session, participants learned how to make decoupage as they created a scene from Princess and the Pea. Click here to see pictures.
The Princess and the Pea is proudly sponsored by Elements of Health Spa, in Windsor, NS.

Return to Now Playing
Jenna Newcomb
Jenna Newcomb attends Horton High School and
is an active member of the drama program and an
avid singer. She recently starred in CentreStage’s The
King’s New Clothes as Queen Charlotta and had a small part as a waitress in
Horton’s 42nd Street. She will also be starring as Jo in the upcoming Little
Women at CentreStage.
Jessica D'Entremont
Jessica D’Entremont is a grade 10 French Immersion
student at Horton High School. She enjoys the
theatre experience very much and has been on stage in
other CentreStage plays – Snow White and the Seven
Dorfs, Sleeping Beauty, and The King’s New Clothes.
In her spare time she enjoys horse riding, dancing,
singing, and playing soccer.
Abigail Smolenaars
Abigail Smolenaars is a grade 6 student and loves acting, singing
and all things theatre-related.
She has been in many shows including The Wizard
of Oz, Annie, The Sound of Music, Star Search,
Treasure Island and many more. This is Abigail’s third time performing at
CentreStage; her last two times performing here were with camp.
Emma Bullerwell
Emma Bullerwell has only been acting for a little over a year, but
during that time she has been in five plays and musicals – four at CentreStage and one
at Wolfville School. She has been in two plays directed
by Colleen; this is her third. Emma’s interests include
band, singing, and writing. In fact, she’s in the school
band and the Acadia Youth Choir this year. Emma is currently writing
a novel. Fitting all of this into a schedule with grade six homework is
both challenging and exciting for her.
Samantha Vinqvist
Samantha is a 13 year old grade 8 student who
is quite excited to be in her first play. She
says her mom can forget about being treated like a
queen unless she can get treated like a princess. She is
enjoying working with such nice people in this play and
says, "Enjoy the show".
Mindy Vinqvist-Tymchuk
When not working, spending time with family,
fishing or embarrassing herself on the golf
course, Mindy Vinqvist-Tymchuk loves to spend time
on stage. She has been in enough plays now (adult and
children’s plays) to have to take her shoes off to count
them all, so has stopped counting. She is very pleased
to work with such an excellent cast, crew, and director, and is especially
excited to be able to work with her Gorgeous daughter for the first time
on stage. She is hoping that playing a Queen means her children will
start to treat her like one…but she’s not holding her breath on that one.
Tim Hawkins
On the heels of the successful fundraiser
Temperance in a Tea Cup, Tim Hawkins goes
from dealing with the purveyors of rum to dealing with
the trials of getting a prince married in The Princess
and the Pea. "Being a part of this show, with so many
talented youth, takes me back to 1985 when at 15, I
walked into CentreStage for the first time with Annie Get Your Gun. It’s
still a great thrill to be here, and I hope it will be for years to come."
Thomas Burton
Thomas Burton has been an active community
and school theater member since the age of 5,
when he performed in CenterStage’s production of The
Wizard of Oz. He has also performed in shows with
The Fezziwig Society, Stage Prophets, and Edalene
Theater. Most recently Thomas performed in Horton
High’s production of 42nd Street as Andy-Lee. Thomas likes to play
the piano and trombone, and teaches and assists tae kwon do classes in
Hantsport.
Micaela Comeau
Micaela Comeau (aka Micci) has loved music and
been singing, dancing and acting since before
she can remember. She has done a few radio and tv
commercials, but her great love is live theatre. She
has acted in a few performances at Th’Yarc theatre
in Yarmouth - her favorite up till now was the role of
Mayzie in Seussical the Musical. But her favorite role of all time is
Princess Rover in Princess and the Pea! Micci is homeschooled, so most
of her time is spent doing what she loves - anything in the fine arts! Her
far-reaching goal is to get her degree in musical theatre and pursue a
career onstage.
Anna-Maria Gallante-Ward
Anna-Maria Galante-Ward teaches Kindermusik and
piano at her home studio in Coldbrook. This is her
2nd year performing at CentreStage, and she thinks the
idea of a dedicated children’s theatre is brilliant. Last
year she accompanied Sleeping Beauty and The King’s
New Clothes.
John Reid
John is 11 years old and this is his first time as Stage Manager. He
enjoys hockey, golf, and of course, acting. His favorite song from the
play is Thank You because it
teaches kids to always use the words please and thankyou.
(And John would like to say thank you for letting
him be Stage Manager.)
