Allison Meisner: Nature, Realism and Abstract Art

Allison Meisner has called the Annapolis Valley home since 1970. She resides in Melvern Square with her husband and two children.

Allison’s love of art began early. She was introduced to painting in an oil-painting course at her local community centre, taught by the late Harold Ryan of Middleton. She was nine years old and has been hooked on painting ever since.

After successfully completing a two-year course in graphic design and illustration at the Annapolis Community College in Middleton, she attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax. For two years at NSCAD, studying oil painting, sculpture and jewellery design, she improved her style by exploring the fine-art side of painting.

Allison works in a variety of mediums including acrylic, oil, watercolour and soap stone carving. Her favourite subjects to paint in a realistic style are animals, scenery and flowers. But her true passion lies in abstract art. “It allows the greatest room for creativity,” she says.

Allison has been an active member of the Artist Circle for over 15 years. The group holds the annual Apple Blossom Art Show in Greenwood and runs the Margaretsville Art Studio every summer.

Her work can be seen year round at the Big Scoop restaurant in Middleton and during the winter at the Greenwood mall.
